Colorful ideas.
It seems like lately I have been noticing the name Pantone being advertised more – and not just for the color books we designers know and love. I’ve seen Pantone Matching System colors displayed in department stores where they announce their new line of colorful kitchenware.
Pantone even paired up with GAP to create a NYC popup store in 2009.
And then I came across this: A Pantone hotel! What a designer’s dream.
Pantone has been aggressively pursuing a new line of business, product licensing, which culminates in the Pantone Hotel in Brussels Center, Belgium.
Pantone’s hope is to eventually extend their color-matching system across other systems – coordinating, say, the paint in your living room and all the furnishings within it, or your lipstick and every other shade you’d like to match it to.
But how far can they go? Maybe someday we will be describing our emotions with PMS colors. I can hear it now. “This awful weather is making me feel PMS 285.”
