Felicia: 25 years of helping kids.

Felicia Iggulden, our media and traffic coordinator, just celebrated her silver anniversary of volunteer service to the Kelly for Kids Foundation. For 25 years Felicia has dedicated her time to the committee that organizes the Jim Kelly Celebrity Golf Classic. The event raises money for the Kelly for Kids Foundation, Hunter’s Hope Foundation, and other local children’s charities.

Her interest in the charity began as part of her job at the Peter J. Schmitt Co. “The president of the company sort of took Jim under his wing when he came to Buffalo in 1986. He said, ‘You need to do something for our community.’” And Felicia has been a part of that community outreach since day one.

What you may not know is that the week before the event Felicia and her team of dedicated volunteers packed more than 450 sponsor bags. They were up at 4:30 the morning of the tournament to go to the golf course and unload the truck, set up for registration, and spend the day managing tournament activities.

The golf tournament alone has raised more than $4 million dollars to date for Western New York children’s charities. The Kelly for Kids board reviews grant proposals and tries to target kids charities that are underfunded.

Felicia is proud of the fact that despite the weak economy, people still turned out to support the cause. “The price of the tournament has not gone up in 25 years,” she said.

This is Felicia’s last year with the organization. “It’s time for someone else to do this; younger people who can share some new ideas and energy.” She was awarded with a bronze statue of a buffalo with a plaque reading, “In Recognition and Gratitude: 25 Years of Dedicated Service to the Kelly for Kids Foundation. 1987 – 2011.” She described her feelings about her many years spent volunteering for the foundation in one word: “gratified.”

So what is Felicia going to do with all her free time? “I’m going to focus on family now,” she says. “Who knows what else?”
