Good for you, Mr. Miracle Whip Marketing Man.
It’s not often that you see a TV commercial – or any advertising for that matter – that openly admits not everyone likes the product featured. Typically, we’re encouraged to believe everybody wants to drive car X, no one doesn’t eat cereal Y, and you’d be crazy not to see movie Z. So when I saw these new spots for Miracle Whip, I felt really happy inside.
Make light of the fact that some people absolutely hate your product? Genius.
I don’t think this approach would work for just any product, but MW has always seemed pretty polarizing, which is why I think the campaign really works. (Plus, Pauly D is in one. Beat dat beat!) The ads, which appropriately state, “We’re not for everyone” also invite people to voice their opinions openly about the part-mayonnaise, part-hairspray spread via social media. Pretty ballsy stuff. I like. I like a lot.
