I like what I do.
Just last night, the Ad Club of Buffalo treated its members to a captivating little film about our very own business. No, it wasn’t 1990’s Crazy People. It was the aptly named Art & Copy.
The award-winning film features such ad gods as Jeff Goodby, Hal Riney, and David Kennedy (to name only a few), who basically chronicle the last 50 years or so of advertising. Many classic commercials are featured and special attention is given to the brands that really changed things – your VWs and Apples. All the while, various facts and figures running throughout the film illustrate just what a behemoth the advertising business has become today.
And that’s when it hit me.
Sure, advertising is this gargantuan entity which has worked its way into every facet of our lives. But, in the end, what good ad people are really trying to do is so much smaller and simpler. We just want to make something beautiful, memorable, and motivational. Not unlike the wonderful film we saw last night. Check it out if you can.
