It’s beginning to look a lot like tax day!
I don’t know about you, but around the Low household, April 15 is eerily similar to that most jolly of holidays our nation celebrates at the end of December. We spend the weeks leading up to this special day preparing in various ways – gathering receipts, baking cookies, sending cards to the merchants who made the past year so special. We even decorate a tree. Granted, it’s less grand than the tannenbaum we put up for Christmas. And no, there are no lights – that would just be silly. Then, on the 14th, we have the extended family over for a feast of ham and beans (though I’m still unsure of the origin of this tradition). When the meal is through, we all gather around the electric keyboard and belt out “Taxman” over and over as my father tickles the plastic ivories. It’s a rousing time for all.
What makes this time of year all the more special are all the commercials peddling various tax services. From mid-January right up to the big day, we’re bombarded with messages from companies all competing to do our taxes – each promising a low fee and an excellent return. Below is one that makes me particularly warm and fuzzy inside. Feliz día del impuesto!
