Media Party! With Jessica and Erin.
Former Apple engineer Pete Warden is doing something pretty neat. He’s gathered data from 210 million public Facebook profiles using proprietary web-crawling software that he created himself. He’s analyzing the social graph and making the data available to the public for academic research this week. Warden says, “I am fascinated by how we can build tools to understand our world and connect people based on all the data we’re just littering the internet with.” Yeah, so why does this matter? Well, we’re about to see unbiased self-reported opinions, demographics, and lifestyle statistics. And for us media geeks, that’s about as good as it gets.
