Social media, and other meaty topics.
In late October, Pete Reiling and I attended a conference of creative directors as part of our AAAAs Green Forum. The Green Forum is a collection of AAAA member agencies about the same size as Crowley Webb who get together periodically to discuss a wide range of topics.
We CDs gathered in NYC at the AAAAs offices in the beautiful Chrysler building for two days of discussion, work sharing, and a visit to Tribal DDB (not to mention an awesome dinner at Sparks Steakhouse). Most of the discussion was around the challenges we all face, particularly how we’re all struggling to integrate digital and social media into our processes, and how to package and sell them to better serve our clients. As we all talked, it was somewhat comforting to discover we’re all dealing with the same issues. Who owns social media at your agency? How is the agency compensated? How do you recruit people with the right skill set? How do you integrate it into a traditional agency structure? Even Rob Rasmussen, ECD at Tribal DDB, one of the most successful digital agencies in the world, shared stories of how they struggle with these same issues. There were no simple answers – every agency is attacking it differently with mixed success. And we all have a ways to go.
As we all work to continue the never ending changes in our business, I look forward regrouping next year to see the progress we all make. And to have another delicious 16 oz. filet.
