Get to know Nate, our newest designer.

The art folks here at Crowley Webb make up one hell of a talented roster. And once they come on board, they stay. So new positions are few and far between. Needless to say, when we do have an opening, we do our vetting. Well, Nathanial Benoit passed the test.

I sat down with Nate this week and asked him a few questions so we could all get to know him a bit better. Here’s what he had to say.

Caleb: So, Nate, what did you do before coming to Crowley Webb?
Nate: I actually worked as an intern at Block Club.

Caleb: Yeah, we know those guys.
Nate: Yeah, it was a really great experience. I learned a ton about design, branding, and agency life generally while I was there.

Caleb: Very cool. Who are some of your favorite designers?
Nate: I would have to say my top five are Matt Dawson, Nathan Yoder, Peter Bacallao, Travis Price, and Brendan Bayard.

Caleb: What is it about these guys that you like? Do they share a similar style you admire?
Nate: For me, the most impressive thing about these artists is their ability to hand-letter most of their text, creating an authentic look and feel for the brands they work with. You can also tell that each of their designs are thoroughly thought-out, meticulously researched, and carefully executed.

Nate's Inspiration

Some of Nate’s favorite pieces from these designers.

Caleb: I’m a writer, so this next question is definitely more my speed – do you have any favorite design quotes or mantras?
Nate: I do, actually. Baton Rouge-based design and branding firm, TILT, says that “Clients don’t commission us to make art. They pay us to drive commerce or advance their causes.”

Caleb: Lastly, I’d be remiss not to ask you – you’ve been with Crowley Webb for a little while now, and you’ve had a chance to work on quite a few projects. What’s been your favorite so far?
Nate: I recently got to work on the logo and jersey designs for the Crowley Webb kickball team. That was really fun.
