The Summer I Was an Intern: Season Two
Cue opening theme song (probably something by Harry Styles) as the title screen reads “The Summer I Was an Intern.”
Yes everybody, I know the first season (last summer) is going to be hard to beat. My two-week fling with every department really made for a fun, unforgettable, learning experience as a marketing intern with Crowley Webb. But like every summer fling, you have to go back to school and say farewell to your summer-filled love story, or should I say marketing-filled story.
With your first love (aka first internship) comes an important lesson that you will keep with you for the rest of your life. Luckily, I wasn’t traumatized by my first internship like some are with a first love, so instead, I left 268 Main Street confident and empowered that public relations was my true love.
Now you feel the cliff hanger! What happens now?! What happens to the connection with PR? Does she ever see CW again? What happens next summer?!
Well, thanks to my unintentional manifestation due to never shutting up about my experience with Crowley Webb, I received the most wonderful LinkedIn message from the VP of Public Relations, Andrea Gallagher, toward the end of the school year. And from that day I had yet another reason to look forward to summer because I was going back to CW. But this time, in the department that I discovered last summer I wanted my career to be in. And that was PR.
*Insert major time jump like every teen romance show*
Summer is over.
Well, not yet technically, but my time being an intern at CW (this time in PR) has come to a close once again unfortunately. And I can proudly say that this summer was yet another dream come true thanks to the team here.
There was never not a day that was not full of engaging work in the PR department. The variety of work that was given to me was the picture perfect layout any aspiring PR fanatic would love to have right at their fingertips. From traditional PR, such as numerous press releases, pitch plans, influencer master lists, source research, and media reports to the creative brainstorms of multiple completed social videos, there was never not a day where knowledge was gained and experience was lived.
And boy, let me tell you, there was never a day that I walked into the Sweeney Building feeling unwelcome or underappreciated. Besides the work that has taught me more than I could have ever dreamed of at my age, I have learned what it feels like to have a support system that believes in your ability to be great.
Working in a department with six women, made the only child in me beam with happiness because I was surrounded with people who felt like big sisters! Every day with the PR team was a new adventure, in which they so kindly let me tag along. Their patience, kindness and, of course, goofiness fueled me every day I was in the office. The environment they created made it easy for me to ask questions when confused, make mistakes with the certainty of receiving help, be curious with the chance to explore that curiosity, aim higher when I thought I’d reached my peak and, of course, be silly no matter the hour.
The confidence that they showed they had in me, gave me confidence in myself. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to teach me the first stepping stones of what it takes to one day be as successful, beautiful, and extraordinary as they are, not only in their careers but in their lives as moms, coworkers, partners, and most importantly, friends.
I can proudly, but sadly, leave Crowley Webb knowing that once again, I somehow was granted yet another amazing learning experience of what it takes to be one of the greats in the marketing industry. Thank you to all of CW and Praxis for welcoming me with open arms into your world and giving me more knowledge that I will forever be grateful for.
As they say, stay tuned for next season.
